In January is the motivation very high, to realize new year’s resolution. In order to be successfully implemented in the long term, you should not start with several at the same time. Choose 1-2 intentions, that are important to you and start planning them. It’s easier to focus with clearly defined goals. However, don’t set your goals to high. Try to set intermediate goals, so you can always count successes. Here are ideas for new resolutions and how to implement them.
1) Get up earlier in the morning
If you manage to get up earlier, you have more of your day. Since I am a late riser, this purpose is very high on my list. How good does it feel to be able to do everything in the early hours of the morning that you have planned for the whole day? So you can plan the rest of the day and don’t have to worry about your errands.
But to get up early, you should go to bed earlier. A night routine can help. For example, I set my alarm clock for 22 o’clock. The alarm means for me – taking a shower, brushing my teeth and getting ready. At 11 pm I go to bed and read a book until I get tired and fall asleep. The routine makes it easier to fall asleep, as the body gets used to the sleep rhythm.
2) Take time for yourself
We live in a fast-paced world. In the stressful everyday life one quickly forgets to take time for oneself. Plan a ME-time in your calendar and stick to it. Go for a walk or treat yourself for a spa break. Maybe a solo getaway would be something for you?
3) Exercise more
It would be beneficial to work out at least 15 minutes every day. Be aware of why you want to integrate more sport into your everyday life. Do you do it for your health? To lose weight or improve your condition? Concrete goals help with the implementation. For example, instead of setting yourself the goal of losing weight, clearly and realistically formulate how many kilos/lbs you want to lose in what time frame. So you have a goal, which you can stick to.
4) Healthy diet
Create a nutritional plan, so you don’t lose overview. In order to make it easier for you to eat healthy, I would recommend stop buying unhealthy foods. So you aren’t even tempted to eat unhealthy. If you find a friend who will eat well with you, it will be easier. Eating sweets every now and then is okay. Don’t try to overdo it.
Personally, I am currently following the 80/20 theory. This means, try to eat 80% healthy and to 20% you can eat whatever you feel like. This form should help you to don’t relapse and to pursue a healthy lifestyle in the long term.
Also, be sure to drink 2 liters of water daily. If you don’t like still water, you can spice it up by adding lemons, oranges or berries like raspberries or blueberries.
5) Contact an old friend
Do you have a school friend or a former colleague whom you have lost sight of? Take the initiative and contact this person again.
6) Seek a new hobby or revive an old one
You always wanted to play the piano, but you never found the time to do it? Your time has come to fulfill this wish. Life is too short to defer your innermost wishes again and again. Of course, this wish can also be to learn a new language, to play the guitar or to practice yoga. Do what makes you happy and do it NOW.
7) Say something nice to the people you love
Have you already told your best friend how much you love her? Did you remind your partner with a romantic gesture how wonderful he is? Friends are special and shouldn’t be taken for granted. Show your friends, how valuable they are on a regular basis.
8) Clean up your apartment
Try to keep your home clean by making sure, that everything returns to its original place after using it. Make it a habit. With little effort, your apartment looks much neater and you can relax in the evening on the couch.
9) Read a book
Instead of surfing randomly on your smartphone in the evening, read a book that amuses you or encourages you to learn something new. I am currently reading books that expand my knowledge in the areas of fitness, beauty and marketing.
10) Make compliments
What could be better than giving someone a treat? Be open, jump over your shadow and compliment strangers. You’ll see how contagious a smile can be and positive things fall on you.
What are your new year’s resolutions? Do you pursue intentions that I did not enumerate? Share your plans with me and write it down in the comments. I am happy to read your ideas.
